Cooper Sy (Sharyn Blumenthal) studied poetry with Rachel Blau Du Plessis and then slipped quietly out of the English Department into film. She received an MFA in Film/TV from Temple University. And subsequently attended and graduated from the American Film Institute as a Directing Fellow. A partial list of award winning films include: The Poet’s Wife, Walking To Waldheim, starring Doris Roberts and John Randolph. Take Two premiered at The American Film Institute. Recently, Cooper directed the play Acts of Faith, based on Grace Paley’s short stories for Laterthanever Productions, San Diego. A documentary, The Phoenix Effect, received a grant from Leonard Nimoy and screened worldwide. Writer’s At Work, Los Angeles, selected her as Poet of the Month. Her poem “Summer Poetry” will appear in an Anthology published by Vagabondage Press in February 2012. A short story “I’ll Meet You At The Film Forum” was published spring 2011 in The Battered Suitcase. “Summer Poetry” a poem just published in Love Notes, an anthology published by Vagabondage Press. Cooper is completing a novel, and shooting a documentary Privileged Chicks in New York City.
